The Emperor
The Original Emperor
Artifact description
The Emperor original artifact, made for GAM-465, is was 3D gold bust statue of the Emperor with the laurel wreath upon his head.
The Emperor prides himself as a warrior though he has never attended battle in victory. He holds an attitude mandate over the heads of the public and enforces his distorted view of this gratuitous concept.
The original artifact is a 3D gold bust statue of the Emperor with the laurel wreath upon his head.
The Emperor
Updated Artifact
This character is very special to me. It was the first character model I created from my own concept art from a forward-facing and a profile sketch.
Tool(s) used
Blender 4.3
Unreal Engine 5.1.1
Highlighted skills
I updated the original bust statue into a more detailed mesh with multiple materials/textures to make the character asset more human-like. I added a shirt, arms, and more details to the armor. Also recreating the eagle embellishment was a nice touch.
Reflection
How would you describe the process of creating and polishing the artifact?
The experience was more than gratifying to develop this character from scratch. From the concept sketches in GAM-465 to the updated model that came out of GAM-495, I enjoyed the entire process. I think I learned the most from this artifact!
What did you learn as you were creating it and improving it?
I learned to plan a facial topology to help textures stretch and not clip when bending or folding on a vertex group. Below, you can see the topology evolution of the facial features.
What challenges did you face?
Fixing the topology on the face of the original artifact was a challenging and fun experience.
How did you incorporate feedback as you made changes to the artifact?
I did not get much feedback to incorporate on this updated artifact other than "Looks pretty good. You have some additional polishing that could be done, but well done overall."
How was the artifact improved?
I used Blender to update this character model including the textures used for pores and freckles. Hair was also added to the head and eyebrows.
Adding a shirt, arms, and additional embellishments on the armor such as the eagles and leather straps holding the different plates of armor together.
Once I had the updated artifact, I uploaded the video to YouTube for review.
